Apple and Google are buying up some of Japan’s largest fruit and vegetable markets, including the iconic Osaka fruit market.
The U.S.-based tech giant has bought out the Osaka-based Tsukiji Fruit Market Group for $1.6 billion.
Google will retain ownership of the Osaka market for the next five years.
The Osaka market was in the midst of a two-year shutdown when Google bought it.
The Tsukiji deal is aimed at attracting Japanese consumers and helping Google grow its presence in the country, according to an Apple spokesman.
